Santalabari , small beautiful village in the deep of Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR) core area. This village is one of the most popular area and considered as the best inside the Reserve Forest especially for nature lovers. From the Rajabhatkhawa entry gate to Buxa Tiger Reserve, It is a straight 15 kms drive through the forests of Buxa.
It was told that some time ago Bhutanese residents utilized this place to convey bins brimming with oranges that swung from their shoulders and presented to them right down to this village. During winters an enormous town advertise (privately known as haat) used to set up at this village . Oranges are locally known as ‘Santra’ and thus the name of the town ‘Santrabari’ , presently referred to better as Santalabari.
This is one of the few places in the whole of Dooars region where proper trek routes are available for nature lovers from where few trek route start. Buxa Fort , Rupam valley . lepchakha , jayanti village via lepchakha. Mahakal via lepchakha are the most popular route among trekkers.
It is one of the most popular tourist spot of Dooars package tour or Dooars tour plan or buxa jayanti package tour.

Best Time to visit
Buxa Tiger Reserve remains closed between June 15th to September 15th due to monsoon and safaris do not take pace during this time, so no outsider can enter the Santalabari village during this time. The best time to visit is the winter time between October to February. Weather remains very pleasant during this time and safaris are very enjoyable.
