Neora Valley National Park is situated in the Kalimpong district, West Bengal was established in 1986. It spreads over an area of 88 km² and is one of the richest biological zones in the entire Eastern India. It is the land of the elegant red panda in the pristine undisturbed natural habitat with rugged inaccessible hilly terrain and rich diverse flora and fauna making this park an important wilderness zone. The most elevated part of this park is Rechela Danda (10600 ft ), where it frames a boundary with Sikkim in the North and Bhutan in the North East. Neora Valley National Park covers an area of 88 km2 with an elevation of 183–3,200 m (600–10,499 ft). The highest point is Rachela Danda. The forest in Neora Valley has such luxurious growth that even sunlight finds it difficult to touch the ground. Much of the park is still inaccessible, making it an adventurous place for the nature lovers/trekkers who can take the challenge to explore the still-unknown terrain in the Kalimpong hills. Virgin natural forests, dense bamboo groves, colourful canopy of Rhododendron trees, lush green valley, meandering rivers and streams with snowcapped mountains in the backdrop form a picturesque landscape.

Guest can visit the national park by jeep , vehicles can go 13 km inside the national park up to the Zero Point. While this drive through the forest can be an incredible encounter, best is to take a guide and trek through the different path in the forest, or simply take a walk.

The entrance to the park is at Kolakham – a village which is about 10kms from Lava. The Neora Valley National Park is unique in its natural beauty with the spectacular Kanchenjunga range in the backdrop. Approximately 20% of the total species found in the park are extremely rare.

Where to stay in Neora Valley National Park

There are a few private accommodations available in lava . Guest can either choose to stay in Government Forest Bungalow or they can opt to stay in private hotels and resort which are located in around lava bazar.

But staying at the recreation center territory has an exceptional vibe. After all you will wake up to the peeping of the bird and to stunning perspectives on Kanchenjunga . Kolakham is a little town situated at the edge of Neora Valley National Park. This is perfect for the traveler stop and is situated at a height of 6,500 ft. You get great perspective on Kanchenjunga snow tops from here on a sunny morning.
