Kolakham is a small village in the fringe areas of Neora Valley Reserve Forest. It is far removed from urban life. Located at an altitude of 6500 ft Kolakham is a paradise for nature lovers. Set amidst Oak, Rhododendron and Pine forests, and overlooking the snow-clad Himalaya, this is an ideal getaway for those who wish to explore pristine mountain wilderness. The majestic view of Kanchenjunga along with its adjoining peaks, ie. Kabru, Kabru Dome, Pandim, Siniolchu etc. from Kolakham village, the jungle trail in the Neora forest, the scenic beauty of Change waterfalls is once in a lifetime experience for anyone. Lava & Rishyap are distinctly visible from the village.

There are many rare birds and animals and luckier ones are those who can sight wild animals. Changi Falls is just 3 km jeep drive plus 1.5 km walk down over 250 well built stairs. One can also move around a little to lava and visit the Lava Monastery and Neora Valley Interpretation Cente. Rishap offers a great view of the snow capped peaks. Charkhole, 32 km away, also has interesting views of the snow-capped peaks.

Kolakham is only 8 kms from Lava and the whole course goes through Neora Valley National Park. Neora Valley forest is a home of the Red Panda, the Musk Deer and the Clouded  which are routinely observed wild lives.
