Kalimpong is a lovely spot to spend quality vacations. This little town situated at a height of 4,100ft. It once used to be the center point of the trans-Himalayan trade among India and Tibet. As a result of its moderately lower altitude compared with Darjeeling or Gangtok, the climate is milder and lovely for most piece of the year. Macfarlane in the early 1870s established the first schools in the area..

Horticulture is important to Kalimpong: It has a flower market notable for its wide array of orchids; nurseries, which export Himalayan grown flower bulbs, tubers and rhizomes, contribute to the economy of Kalimpong. Home to Nepalis, indigenous Lepchas, Bhutias and non native immigrants from other parts of India, the town is a religious centre of Buddhism. The Tibetan Buddhist monastery Zang Dhok Palri Phodang holds a number of rare Tibetan Buddhist scriptures.

The town center is on a ridge connecting two hills, Deolo Hill and Durpin Hill. Deolo, the highest point in Kalimpong, has an altitude of 5,591 ft and Durpin Hill is at an elevation of 4,501 ft. The River Teesta flows in the valley below and separates Kalimpong from the state of Sikkim.
Kalimpong is well renowned for its cheese, noodles and lollipops. Kalimpong exports a wide range of traditional handicrafts, wood-carvings, embroidered items, bags and purses with tapestry work, copper ware, scrolls, Tibetan jewellery and artifacts.

Kalimpong is also known for their rich practice of cactus cultivation. Its nurseries attract people from far and wide for the absolutely stunning collection of cacti they cultivate

  1. Delo park: It’s located on top of Deolo Hill (also known as Dello Hill) at the highest point of Kalimpong at an altitude of about 5,500 ft. A very beautiful hilltop view point in Kalimpong. There is a beautiful park with playground for kids, horse riding, and a couple of view points from where you can look over Teesta river & the mesmerizing view of mt Kanchenjunga .
  2. Dr Graham’s Homes : This missionary school was set up by Dr. J A Graham in 1900 as an orphanage & school. It is an excellent attraction in kalimpong. A 500 acres of land well maintained. It has a church, school, kindergarten, football ground, bakery and excellent scenic beauty.
  3. Morgan House :This used to be an old British property and mirror a regular pioneer design with rambling nursery and perspectives on Kanchenjunga. It has been changed over into a hotel and now run by West Bengal Tourism Department. You can enter the premises and stroll around.
  4. Durga Mandir & Hanuman top:One of the regulars stops on the Kalimpong day tour. Nicely kept place, and great views. The place is very peaceful, and if you are lucky, you can get an amazing view of the Kanchenjunga. This is a Hindu temple of Goddess Durga located near Sherpa View Point. A nice garden full of flowering plants and a viewing gallery. The temple is small but quite nice. Adjacent to this temple there is a  twenty five feet high statue of Shri Hanuman is the main attraction at this place which is visible from a distance. To see it from close there are good amount of steep stairs.. One needs to climb approx 50 steps to reach the temple. 
  5. Pine View Nursery :A private nursery which has a great collections of cactus and ornamental plants. A must visit for the tourists in Kalimpong. It has a wide range of cactuses. The variety of shapes, sizes, colours and floral bursts would impress the visitors. You get great view of Kalimpong town from the backside lawn. Entry fee: Rs. 10/- per person. 
  6. Lord Buddha Statue :While traveling along the road to Deolo there is a small rock garden in which you will find this nice statue of Lord Buddha sitting in a lotus position. you can see this beautiful Lord Buddha temple with a large statue and a little praying room beneath. Must visit this place and spend some time in the prayer room to feel the serenity of the place.
  7. Mangal Dham :The place has a temple of Lord Krishna and other deities. An excellent temple complex built in the memory of late Guruji Mangal Dasji and dedicated to Lord Krishna. The main temple hall is very big.Temple is on the first floor.On the ground floor,there is “Samadhi” of the Guruji of this sect.
  8.  Nature Interpretation Center :This is a museum run by the forest department. It has numerous photos and works of art of vegetation and fauna clarifying the nature and condition of Kalimpong region.
  9. Army Golf Course : A scenic 9-hole golf course which was conceived and laid by the army authorities. The golf course is not directly opened to tourist. However, there’s a cafeteria and a small area adjacent to it are open for general public. Wonderful view of the mountains from around the golf course. Its well maintained by Indain army. An army canteen offering south Indian dishes at reasonable prices is located near it.  The cafeteria has a self service facility with nicely cooked south indian snacks – Dosa, Vada, Idli & Kerala Paratha with veg & non-veg curry. Tea-coffee are available for entire day. Maintained by Madras regiment of Indian Army.
  10. Durpin Monastery or Durpin Dara Hill :A big beautiful monastery is located on this hill. This Tibetan monastery is located on the Durpin hill and hence such name. The actual name is Zang Dog Palri monastery. From the topmost floor of the monastery bird’s eye view of the small town of kalimpong is just wonderful. According to local guide it was called “durbin” meaning binocular hill. Nowadays it’s called durbin. One of the best attractions of kalimpong located very close to the town.   11. Pratima Tagore House : This house was build by Pratima daughter-in-law of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore.This house was build in 1943.  You will discover unique outfitting, part of memorabilia and artist’s sections in this house. It is situated on Atisha street near the Pine View Nursery.
  12. 7 Miles :Giving a outstanding view on Teesta Rangeet Valley while going to Teesta Bazaar, it is just 3 Km away from the Kalimpong. The encompassing verdant forest give a peaceful intrigue to it.
