Jhalong is another offbeat wonder of Dooars . This tourist spot is 99 km from Siliguri and 77 km from Jalpaiguri. The large reservoir provides a great opportunity for the bird lovers to enjoy a varied collection of hill birds as well as migratory water fouls. Eurasian Wryneck, Crested Kingfisher, Brown Dipper, Hodgson’s Redstart, Slaty-backed Forktail, Little Forktail, Rufous-necked Laughing thrush are some of the recorded species found here.

Best Time to visit

Best time to visit Jhalong is considered to be the post monsoon season October and November when the current of river stream is moderate and tourist can make most of the crystal clear water. 

How to Reach Jhalong

reaching Jhalong is easy because it’s accessible by road. Nearest airport is Bagdogra airport (110 K.M), nearest rail railway station is New Mal Jn. distance from Bindu is 46 KM. around one and half hrs. driving through Chapramari forest, Kumani road and Khunia-Jhalong road. The main railway station New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is just 100 K.M away. It’s around 3 hour drive from NJP and the journey to Bindu is an unforgettable experience in itself. Traveling though the thick deciduous forest of Chapramari , while spotting some untamed animals like bison and elephant. On the way to Bindu tourist can also visit a place called Gairibas Diascorrea Plantation.   Its Located 100 km from Siliguri, visitors can easily reach here by hiring a car from Siliguri.
