Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten was built to remove negative forces and promote peace, stability and harmony in the changing world. The Chorten dominates the upper Punakha Valley with commanding views across the Mo Chhu and up towards the mountainous peaks of Gasa and beyond. This Chorten was built in 2004 by HM the Queen Mother. Which. Its amazing beauty and location makes it a worthwhile visit in Punakha district.
Its exterior is in the form of a pagoda like stupa while the interior consists of four stories containing images of the deities of mandalas of Vajarakilaya.
This chorten is about 30 minutes of drive away from the Northern part of Punakha. However, like the Tiger Taktsang, it requires some serious hiking to reach the top of the ridge. The walking trail is a little risky during summers though the view is good. If you are not up to hiking then try reaching the Chorten after walking through the Punakha suspension bridge.. it will just take you half an hour.
The path to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten is as memorable as the Chorten itself which is a pleasant case of brilliant Bhutanese engineering. Horses are accessible till a specific point in the climb after which you despite everything must walk 45 minutes to arrive at the Chorten.
